USA PESS
iIn schools in the USA, there is a huge divide in the PESS programme. This is because school sports are viewed as a higher status than PE. This is most likely due to the American ethich of lombardianism. Lombardianism is the win at all costs attitude to sports made famous by Vince Lombardy who was once quoted as saying 'winning isn't everything, it is the only thing'. This quote is a perfect example of just how much sport actually means in USA. Another reason for Sport being such a high status is that citizens see sport as a way to accomplish the american dream, which is to go from rags to riches. The problem with this, however, is that out of 71,291 college footballplayers,1.6 of them actually acheive the american dream of going pro.
PE, on the other hand, is at a very low status in the USA. It is so low that there isnt actually a NCPE that runs sright throughout the country which means that depending on the state laws, schools won't have to implement PE into their curriculum at all. Even when PE is put into the curriculum, it often doesnt getmuch time for classes, sometimes only 30minutes. School sport can also be seen to be at a higher status because if pupils represent the school sports team then they dont actually have to attend the PE classes. tThis is changing in some states however because of the national concern of obesity which has put a new emphasis on PE to reduce obesity.

PE teachers are also paid a lot less in the USA compared to coaches. Schools will hire coaches to train their school teams to give them the best chance of winning. These coaches are employed on a hire and fire basis just like in professional sport so that if the team is doing bad they can just release them from their contracts and hre a new coach to try and improve the team. This means that there is a lot of insecurity in sports jobs in the USA because of these contracts.
School sports teams are treated as well as professional teams and even have some stadiums in the tens of thousands of seats range. The players are treated as local celebrities in their towns and they recieve nationwide coverage of games on major sports channels such as ESPN.
